A long journey...
First, my mother burnt all her beautiful artworks when she noticed my fascination by them /probably to protect me from becoming a starving artist/; then I learned a communist establishment /of my home country/ would only allow technical studies as my only option /if I wanted to have any education at all/. So, I graduated from mechanical engineering, worked as a drafter designer in a chemical factory for a while and at first opportunity defected for the USA. It took years of low paid jobs just to survive in a new country before I managed to break into computer graphics. It was already a dream come true. After a few national awards and works published in magazines and books, I knew I got the proof I needed /to know I was going to the right direction; being mostly self-educated in visual arts, I had lived in constant doubts about myself/. My graphic design and illustration career brought me not just a major satisfaction from the work itself but also the financial means I needed to feed my family /and venture into new fields later on/. Fine arts was a luxury during all those years, though /and I didn't want to depend on anyone to support me/ but some 25 years /and much hardship/ later, I can finally find some time /once in a while/ to do oil paintings, build and use my own etching press, play with ceramic clays, etc. And I enjoy every minute of it... Hopefully, some of my creations will bring a joy to others as well.
